Return of the Towneley shuttle

5:10pm Friday 27th March 2009

A BUS which shuttles people between Burnley town centre and historic Towneley Hall will restart next month.

Council bosses, who maintain and manage the Grade I-listed hall and its grounds, have teamed up with Transdev to offer a service during the spring and summer months.

Starting on Good Friday, the operator will run a seven-days-a-week, hourly shuttle bus between Burnley bus station and Towneley Park.

The service will stop in the hall car park, the ideal drop-off point for the museum and art gallery, bowling green, woodland walks, nearby playground and popular Four Seasons Cafe.

Coun Charles Bullas, the Burnley Council’s leisure chief, said: “We hope the public will show their support for this new bus service and prove the need for it to continue in future years.”

Transdev and Burnley Council say they have reacted to the popularity of the service last year by extending it.

As a result, it will now run every hour on every day of the week from Stand 9 at the bus station.

The number 3 bus service will run between 8am and 6pm Mondays to Saturdays, while the number 3a will operate between noon and 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
