CLARETS travelling to Old Trafford tonight will no longer face travel disruption after a planned tram strike was called off.

The strike by Metrolink workers had been timed to coincide with Burnley’s trip to Manchester United, which kicks off at 7.45pm.

A Metrolink statement said: “We are pleased to announce that after joint talks with the conciliation service ACAS, the company and Unite have agreed on an improved offer which Unite will now take to its members for ballot.

“As a consequence, the industrial action planned for Wednesday, February 11, has been called off. Normal services for Metrolink will run as planned on this day.

“We apologise to all our customers for the inconvenience the threat of industrial action has caused since it was announced last week.”

Members of the Unite union had previously voted to walk out for 24 hours.
