PARENTS of children at a Burnley primary school have been asked not to bring dogs onto the premises.

Associate head teacher Phil Turner, from St James’ Lanehead CofE Primary, in Briercliffe Road, urged dog lovers to think twice about taking the animals onto the site in case any of the children or other visitors were afraid of them.

He said: “Please can I ask that parents to no longer bring dogs onto school grounds.

“This is a rare occurrence but we have a number of children in school who have either been the victim of a dog attack or are scared of dogs.

“The behaviour of these dogs has never been a problem but I’d like all of our families to respect the feelings of the individuals that are affected by this issue.

He added that guide dogs were still allowed to go to the school.

Mr Turner also asked that no large bags were to be brought into school by pupils.

He added: “Some bags that are being brought into school are unsuitably large.

“Unfortunately, We are not able to store these properly and, therefore, are at risk of being damaged.

“They are also causing health and safety issues as they are a slip and trip hazard.

“Please consider whether your child needs to bring a large bag as book bags and PE kit bags are perfectly suitable.”
