TWO troublemakers who have persistently caused problems for people living in the Duke Bar area of Burnley have each been given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO).

John McParland, 15, and Connor Catlow, 17, are now banned from acting in an anti-social manner within the Burnley Council area as well as throwing any object at any building or vehicle.

The pair cannot enter the boundaries of a specified area of town, stretching across Duke Bar and Briercliffe, to Burnley General Hospital, and up to Reedley, unless they are with a parent, or, in John McParland’s case in the ‘Premier Shop’ in Boundary Street.

They are both banned from associating with each other, as well as Ryan Whittaker, Seamus Gorton and Sam Krelle, but McParland can associate with Sam Krelle within the grounds of Turf Moor. The ASBOs come after they caused endless problems for residents of the Queensgate Ward, especially around Briercliffe Road Shopping Centre.

They lit fires, threw stones at vehicles, and shouted and swore in the street.

PC Martyn Hargreaves, who has secured the ASBO, said: “Over the past six months, John McParland and Connor Catlow have blighted the lives of people living in Queensgate Ward.

“I believe these ASBOs will protect residents from further acts of anti-social behaviour.”

Queensgate Councillor Arif Khan said: “Every person has a right to live in their own home peacefully, and it is a minority of people causing problems.”

The ASBOs, granted at Burnley Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 17, will be in place for two years. To report a breach of these ASBOs or acts of anti-social behaviour in your area, call the police on 101.
