A MAN collapsed and died near Towneley Park in Burnley this morning.

The 76-year-old had a heart attack while he walked along Tormorden Road at around 10.30am.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and North West Air Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead before he could be taken to hospital.

A Lancashire police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

He added: “We got a call from the ambulance service at 10.40am to say the man had collapsed near James Hargreaves Bathrooms in Todmorden Road.

“We have notified the coroner and the man was taken straight to the mortuary by land ambulance.”

The North West Air Ambulance landed in a car park at Towneley Park but was stood down at around 10.45am.

A spokeswoman for NWAS said: “We were called to Todmorden Road at 10.31am and arrived at 10.35am. We did not take anyone to hospital and the scene was cleared at 10.45am when it became clear the patient was unresponsive.”
