SCOOTERS are an obsession for Terry Burns.

His home in Lanehead, Burnley, is packed with memorabilia from around the world.

Despite protests from long-suffering wife Wendy, he has around 300 model scooters lining the walls.

Terry is one of the founder members of the Burnley and Pendle Scooter Club, which will be celebrating its ruby anniversary with a charity ride-out in aid of Pendleside Hospice.

The outing to Blackpool will also be a chance for a number of old friends to renew their acquaintanceships, all for a good cause.

He said: “There will be guests from around the country and friends coming up from as far afield as Dorset. I’ve been collecting scooters for years and I’ve examples from as far as away as China and Germany. It’s kind of taken over the whole house.”

Terry is county councillor for Burnley North East division, a former borough councillor and has worked as a political officer for the union Unite.

He was given an MBE for services to the trade union movement and community work in the town in 2008. He runs Furniture for Education Worldwide, which has sent more than 60 containers packed with schools equipment to seven countries.

Riders will be setting out from the Gala Bingo club on Centenary Way — or Cat’s Whiskers as it will always be known to some — at 9.30am on Saturday, October 4, returning to Burnley Miners Club for a celebration later.
