Call to give fans more say on Clarets
A FRESH appeal has been made to give supporters a greater voice in the day-to-day affairs of Burnley FC.
Currently the Clarets Trust holds 162 shares in the club – making it the eighth largest holding at Turf Moor.
Just under 90per cent of the 75,000 shares issued were in the hands of board members, at the last reckoning.
But the trust has been offered almost 100 add-itional shares, with each likely to cost around the going rate of £200.
Peter Pike, the former Burnley MP and trust chairman, said: “We do intend to increase our shareholding and we have nearly 100 shares on offer to us.
“But, at the moment, we do not have the funds to buy them.
“We can, however, con-sider the purchase of the odd single shares held by fans.”
Supporters can then either agree a price for their share(s) with the organisation, or benefit from life membership Mr Pike added: “A bigger shareholding by the trust will help to give the fans collectively a stronger voice in our club.”
With just over 160 shares held in trust, the current holding equates to around £32,000.
The Clarets Trust is also on the lookout for additional members, and the details are available via www.clarets trust.co.uk Those interested in the share offer can contact the trust, through Mr Pike, at 30 Deerpark Road, Burnley, BB10 4SD.
