Policeman kicked in shin by Burnley drunken yob
5:00pm Friday 4th January 2013 in Burnley
A POLICE officer who suffered a broken left leg on duty was injured again when he was booted trying to arrest a man, Burnley magistrates heard.
The officer was struck by Kayum Akmud, 24, after police were called to his home by his 'terrified' family.
Akmud, said to have been drinking, had been aggressive and when officers arrived, he had gone to his room.
They tried to arrest him after he jumped out of bed and the officer also banged his shin against the bottom of the bed, in the struggle last December 15.
The court was told how the defendant had been abusive, made threats towards both the police and his sisters and adopted a fighting stance.
He pulled away violently as officers tried to handcuff him, kicked the victim's left shin, struggled, and was still swearing and shouting threats after he was handcuffed.
Akmud had to be taken to the ground outside, calmed down and placed in a secure van.
The defendant, of Hurtley Street, Burnley, admitted police assault.
He was fined £110, with £100 compensation and a £20 victim surcharge.
Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, said in July 2010, the officer had broken his left leg and had to have several months off.
He had severe pain and lumps and bruises to his shin after the assault by Akmud. Mark Williams, for Akmud, said: “It certainly wasn't a deliberate kick.”

several months off.work it must have been one hell of a break when I broken my leg in two places I was back at work after 8 weeks, think the police officer was milking the situation
Are you a medical expert in the field of skeletal repair and recovery? Did you consider that this officers injury may have been more complicated than therefore meant an increased convalescence time?
And after all there is a difference between the timescales when it comes to returning fully fit to perform the duties of a frontline cop and returning to clean the toilets and serve fries in Burger King which is
probably what your sorry @ss does.
