Burnley brewery toasts its best year yet

BURNLEY brewery Moorhouse’s has revealed it sold over 500,000 extra pints last month compared to October 2011.

The firm last year opened a new £4.2million site, complete with visitors’ centre and bistro, capable of producing over 1,000 barrels of beer every week.

The success was in no small part thanks to the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witch Trials, which had a big impact on tourism in East Lancashire.

The company has enjoyed its best year since being set up in 1865 with the October sales showing an increase of almost 36per cent on last year.

I went there on a guided tour last week and it was a brilliant experience. The beer was excellent and I for one will be supporting them in the future with my mouth. It's great to see a Lancashire company doing well.

Many older posters will remember Massey's on Westgate, that produced great beer until it was swallowed up in the merger frenzy. Now people are voting with their tastebuds and small independents are marching back to reclaim their heritage.

When are Moorhouses going to stop the stench bellowing out of thier building?
it freaking hums and makes people violently ill. and the wreak get into peoples clothes and houses up to 4 streets away. the smell is worst when they start filling the trailer on the south side of the building ajacent to Villiers Street in their loading bay area. It stinks. I am a tea-totaller and I have been accused of drinking alcohol just for walking past the smelly place...
