Flaming fuel runs down road

A CAR believed to have been set alight in an arson attack caused a ‘running fuel fire’ in a Nelson street.

The blaze happened at 3.25am yesterday when the silver Vauxhall Corsa, which is understood to have been parked on the junction of Carr Road and Every Street, caught fire, causing the fuel tank to leak.

Watch manager Gary Ibbitson said: “On arrival, the car was well alight.

“The occupant probably parked at about 11.30pm so we are putting it down to an arson as an electrical fault would have appeared within four hours.

“The car was on a slope so as it was burning away, the petrol tank spilled and we had a running fuel fire.”

The crew was at the fire for around 40 minutes.
