Sales boost for Burnley brewery

BURNLEY brewery Moorhouse’s has seen sales increase by 36 per cent in the year since it launched its new facility.

The Accrington Road-based brewery bucked the economic trend when it opened its £4.2million brewing complex last May, tripling production to 15 million pints a year.

It meant the firm could meet demand.

The surge in sales over the first 12 months has seen turnover hit £4million for the first time.

David Grant, managing director at Moorhouse’s, said: “Our investment was huge and risky, but our Victorian brewery was bursting at the seams.

“We had to take the plunge. Now the hard work and dedication of the whole team has hit our targets.

“We’re delighted with the increased sales – it’s a massive vindication of our faith in our beers and a great start in paying back our investment.

“Cask ale is in resurgence, the only UK beer sector growing market share. We will grow with this resurgence as the name of Moorhouse’s, and Burnley, becomes increasingly recognised throughout the land.

“Sustainability is key to our success. We have to invest further and put something back to secure the future.”

The increase in sales has been mostly put down to further listings with leading national pub companies and wholesalers.

The extra brewing capacity has also allowed the roll out of much welcomed new seasonal ales such as White Witch and Pendle Porter.

For the future Moorhouse’s aims to hit 600 barrels-a-week and a £7m turnover by 2014.
