Rottweiler in Nelson river drama

A LARGE rottweiler dog had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in a river.

The 12-month-old dog had jumped into water at Walverden Park, Brunswick Street, Nelson, just before 11pm on Tuesday.

Its owners, a couple in their 30s, had only got the dog that day and called 999 when their new pet couldn’t get back up the 4ft drop.

It had swum to a concrete ledge near a surface water drain. A team used an inflatable walkway and a dog restrainer for the rescue.
