BURNLEY MP Gordon Birtwistle has declared his backing for Tim Farron, who represents Westmorland, to become the next deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats.
Mr Farron, who retained his seat with an increased majority earlier this month, was the first MP to put himself forward to replace business secretary Vince Cable, who is standing down from the role after saying he wanted to concentrate on government.
