Elvis fans all shook up by new exhibition

ELVIS fans are being invited to take a step closer to their hero at a Burnley exhibition.

The Elvis exhibition which includes paintings by artist Malcolm Stead and fans' memorabilia is on display at Towneley Hall museum.

Susan Bourne, Towneley Hall's curator, said: "It is the first time we have had an Elvis exhibition at the museum. Malcolm studied at arts school in Bradford in the 1960s.

"He started painting Elvis when a fan asked him to do a portrait for a little girl in hospital. He uses crayon and is really skilled. The pictures are really good.

"It's quite a fun exhibition. People are surprised when they walk in a lovely period room and around the corner there's an Elvis exhibition."

Elvis fans Rita Walsh, secretary of Towneley Hall Society and Jo Garigan, who works at the hall, have personal collections of early memorabilia on display.

The exhibition runs until Sunday. Admission is free.
