TRANSCO Lancashire League strugglers Church are hoping to ignite their season this weekend and are fully focussed on making it through to the quarter-finals of the Inter League Trophy on Monday.

The Blackburn Road club went into this weekend's league double-header against Nelson and East Lancashire without a win to their name.

However, they did beat Central Lancashire League side Milnrow in the first round of the trophy and now have local rivals Enfield in their sights as they look to surpass last summer's run to the last eight.

"A lot of people don't seem to worry too much about it but it's another cup and another piece of silverware there to be won," said Church skipper Alec Holt.

"There are a lot of Lancashire League clubs through which makes it a good competition.

"It's like another Worsley Cup and a good crowd puller. That's how I see it."

Holt believes Monday's showdown with Enfield will be an even contest as Church look to recover from an injury-hit start to the campaign.

Craig Fergusson broke a hand after hitting a half-century to guide Church through round one while new-ball bowlers Mas Hussain and Thomas O'Neill have also been out, although O'Neill hoped to make his comeback at home to Nelson this afternoon. And Holt is hoping that one good result will kick-start their campaign.

He said: "We've just had the worst start we could possibly have expected. Everything has gone against us.

"But we sat down after last weekend and said the important thing was to stick together as a side. I would rather it happened now and you can get on a roll rather than in the middle or towards the end of the season when when it's hard to get out of."

Elsewhere, Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom meet for the third time in just over a week with honours even from last weekend when Rawtenstall took the league points but Rambsottom progressed in the Worsley Cup.

There is another derby at Lowerhouse where the home side will be looking to avenge their Worsley Cup defeat to Nelson, while Colne's reward for knocking out holders Rochdale in round one as a tough trip to Littleborough. Accrington take on Middleton, CCL champions and first round conquerors of Bacup.

Monday's fixtures: Haslingden v Norden, Littleborough v Colne, Accrington v Middleton, Oldham v Burnley, Rishton v Unsworth, Church v Enfield, Rawtenstall v Ramsbottom, Lowerhouse v Nelson.
