IN response to Horses v dogs (Letters, June 11), I wonder if Mr Holden had ever heard of the old woman's tale of putting horse muck into your clogs to make you grow

We were told that as children, after all it was a well known thing to be out with bucket and shovel, collecting this precious fertiliser for use on rhubard and roses.

One could be sure of a good crop. Much better than today. It contained oats and hay and I think liquorice root, all good things to make a good manure (worth its weight in gold).

If only one could do the same for dog dirt, there would be no problem
