LOCAL football leagues are being advised to write to Burnley Football Club as they step up their quest to get grassroots cup finals back on Turf Moor.

Clarets Chief Executive Andrew Watson is inviting league officials to contact him as they look to bring a seven-year absence to an end.

Mr Watson, who has been with the club for two years, said he will review the situation once he has been contacted by the leagues.

He said: "I am aware of the situation but all I can say at this moment is that leagues should contact me and we will take it from there.

"I have only been at the club for two years and I will have to look in to why the cup finals were taken off Turf Moor." Burnley Sunday League chairman John Pilling is leading the campaign to get grassroots football back on Turf Moor. He welcomed the news and said he will be contacting Mr Watson immediately.

Mr Pilling, who is also vice chairman of the Warburtons Youth League, has already asked Burnley to follow in the footsteps of arch rivals Blackburn Rovers who allowed local league cup finals back on Ewood Park at the end of the season.

And he is determined that Turf Moor will once again see local league action -- although it has hosted the Hospital Cup and junior Keighley Cup for a number of years. He will be advising Warburtons Youth League secretary to write the club while Bill Nevison, secretary of the Burnley and District Combination, will also put pressure on the Clarets.

Mr Pilling said: "I am determined to get our cup finals back on Turf Moor and I have already written to the club at the end of the season.

"I have since been told that I have to write to chief executive Andrew Watson which I will be doing so. But I will not be leaving it there.

"I want the club to know how important it is for local players to play on their club's ground."

He added: "It is every football supporter's dream to play a cup final on Turf Moor so I will continue to appeal to the board of directors to once again give back the local supporters the 'once in a lifetime' chance to play on the hallowed turf. Everyone was devastated when the concession to play on Turf Moor was taken away from them and now after seven years it is about time we got back."
