FUN was the name of the game at an annual five-a-side football knockout competition.

For while more than 50 teams battled it out to find out who were champions of the small-sided game, a competition to find the wackiest named team was also keenly contested.

Teams such as Boing Boing Badgers Badgers and Frolicking Fearsome Fivesome may not have been in the hunt for silverware but they certainly raised a few laughs.

This year's Farley's Fun Fives, organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council's community events unit, was split into four age groups.

More than 350 junior and senior players from across East Lancashire contested the boys under 11s and 13s, girls under 12s and senior competition.

In the senior competition, eventual winners Ewood Arms were obviously trying to attract the attention of the sponsors under the name of FARLEssfundYS.

And while they went on to lift the title the wackiest name went to eventual runners-up Showboat FC who came as Jocky Y Front Lads.

Ewood Arms ran out 2-1 winners in the final having beaten Miners Arms A and Wacky Stanley in the knockout stages.

Showboat made the final with wins against Castle Cobras and QGD.

The boys under 11s competition attracted 14 teams which were split into three groups -- and the Akzo Nobel sides were always going to be the teams to watch.

Akzo entered four teams into the age group and three of them reached the knockout stage. In the end, Akzo 'C' and Akzo 'D' contested the final with the 'C' team winning 1-0. The wackiest team award went to Rishton United's Denis' Menaces.

The under 13s event attracted 12 teams which were split into two groups.

Again, the top two from each group contested the semi finals with Akzo Nobel 'A', St Josephs 'A', Knuzden Juniors and St Josephs 'B' all making the last four.

Knuzden Juniors and St Josephs 'B' proved to be the match of the day with Knuzden winning through on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

St Josephs 'A' made the final with a 3-0 win against Akzo Nobel.

St Josephs, who had notched up 21 goals going into the final made it 25 for the competition with a resounding 4-0 win against Knuzden.

It was sweet revenge for the Saints who lost their last group match 2-0 against Knuzden.

The wackiest team name went to Park Lane Rangers' We Are The Weakest Link.

Clitheroe Wolves had three sides in the girls competition with Clitheroe Cloggers running out as eventual winners beating Bolton Wanderers Supporters Girls 1-0.

The wackiest team name went to Blue Star Girls who came up with Papa Roaches Cockroaches.
