TURF FC made Burnley Sunday League history when they became the first club to win the treble.

The Divison Two league and cup winners beat the Divison One runners-up, 2-0, to become the first side from a lower division to lift the Towneley Cup in more than 10 years.

Not since Baltic Fleet managed the feat in the early 90s has a side caused such an upset.

But Turf were worthy of their cup shock.

Simon Edmondson may have grabbed the two goals but it was a solid, battling team performance that was the key to victory.

Turf obviously had a plan and stuck to it -- snuffing out the threat of the Robinson brothers, play-maker Scott and top scorer Craig.

They wrode their luck but skipper Neil Munroe, who was solid throughout, and his fellow defenders kept Boys Club at bay.

Boys Club were forced into an early re-shuffle when Paul Dickinson limped off and Mark Harrison joined the fray. But that only served to boltster their attacking options as Harrison moved up front with Jason Stubbs slotting back into midfield.

Stubbs was denied a goal when he cut through the Turf defence and crashed a shot against the bar before Harrison forced Grant Scott into a good save with a low drive from outside the area.

But they were hit with a sucker punch just before the break when Toby Campbell centred for Edmondson to steal in before Boys Club keeper Jason Hodgson to stab the ball home.

Turf's defensive qualities shone in the second half as they absorbed everything Boys Club threw at them.

Craig Robinson had a shot charged down for a corner and then had a goalward header hooked off the line by Dave Jolly.

Substitute Wayne Howarth then fired narrowly wide.

It was pretty frantic stuff but Munroe was determined his side were not going to throw away their lead. So much so that it was his long ball that caught out the Boys Club defence as Edmondson's gamble paid off when Hodgson missed the ball and tall strike rolled the ball into an empty net. From then on there was only going to be one winner and it Turf who went on to lift the trophy.Turf FC 2 Burnley Boys Club 0 Turf FC Grant Scott (keeper) Rode his luck in first half but proved to have a safe pair of hands...6
