DARREN Britt, the Canterbury Bulldogs captain and Australian Test prop, has signed a two year agreement with Saints.

Britt is joining Saints at the end of the season after 220 first grade games in Australia with Western Suburbs (1988-94) and then Canterbury.

He wore the Green and Gold for the first time in 1998 playing in two Tests against New Zealand. In 1999 he played a further two Tests against the Kiwis again and one against Great Britain.

Last year he was a member of Australia's victorious World Cup squad - playing against New Zealand in the final.

Saints boss Ian Millward said: "Darren has proved himself at the highest level as a hard working and highly-skilled front rower.

"He's also revealed outstanding leadership qualities and will be a top class acquisition."

Britt said:" I had an option to stay with the Bulldogs next season, but have always harboured a desire to have a couple of years in England towards the end of my career.

"It will be difficult leaving Canterbury especially having been privileged to captain the club for the last three seasons.

"It will be a great honour to play for St Helens and my goal is to be part of their future success and help them secure further achievements."
