A FORMER industrial building is set to become a council's new home.
Hyndburn Council is move into offices at Scaitcliffe House, Ormerod Street, Accrington, after the owners of its existing offices in Eagle Street put them up for sale.
The council offered to buy the Eagle Street site from Lancashire County Enterprises Ltd, a company controlled by Lancashire County Council.
But instead it opted to sell the site, next to the railway station, to a property investment company -- leaving Hyndburn Council with no choice but to look elsewhere
The refurbishment of the three-storey Scaitcliffe Houses, along with a single-storey extension to house new meeting rooms and a reception, will cost £1.85million.
It is hoped the new scheme will open up redundant land behind Scaitcliffe House for business development.
Hyndburn Council leader Peter Britcliffe, said: "We have responded to public demand to find an affordable solution to the council offices problem.
"We have rejected more expensive options and decided to adapt and existing industrial building within walking distance from the town centre."
