BLACKBURN-based recruitment specialists Henry Court was signed up by the Ministry of Defence to supply the workers to create two unique naval training bases.

The £8 million world-beating project -- featured on BBC's Tomorrow's World -- will teach the Royal Navy how to deal with fire at sea.

A team of 80 skilled workers was hand-picked to build a number of simulated ship interiors at HMS Raleigh at Plymouth and HMS Excellent at Portsmouth.

Andy Shepherd, of Henry Court, explained that both sites were rigged with high tech fire simulation systems which required highly-skilled staff to build and fit.

"This was a vital project and only the highest calibre staff were involved, from mechanical engineers and pipe-fitters to electricians and foremen," he said.

The systems, which can simulate gas, oil or electrical fires, were designed by Yorkshire-based Process Combustion.

Company director Gordon Higginson, who invented the simulators, said: "This is highly sensitive equipment and we needed someone we could fully trust to fulfil our workforce requirements." "The workers also had to be cleared by the MoD for security reasons which is why Henry Court was approached to supply the expertise."
