RAINFORD Band have been confirmed as North West Counties Brass Band Association Third Section champions and will now be promoted to the Second Section.
The news comes after a string of victories at contests in the North West, including Fleetwood, Tameside, Widnes and Preston.
Band spokesman Martin Rigby said: "This is fantastic news for the band and follows a great deal of hard work by the players over the last couple of years. Hopefully, we will be able to continue our progress and strive for honours in the Second Section next season".
The band's success has come under musical director Lynda Nicholson, who also leads the championship-winning St Helens Youth Brass Band.
And promotion comes at a fitting time for the band which this year celebrates its silver jubilee. Celebrations reach a climax next month with a three-day 'Jubilee Jubilate' musical extravaganza at a local farm. This will take the form of a joint concert with the Inter-Vogue choir on Friday, July 13; the band's annual Summer Pops concert the following night and a special concert and workshop to introduce youngsters to the world of brass music on Sunday, July 15.
More details of these events can be obtained from band secretary Kath Gaskell on St Helens 730493.
Meanwhile, due to university commitments, the band is urgently seeking a second trombone player. Players interested should contact Geoff Hunter on 01744 882061.
