FAMILY and friends of Jim Rivett and Julie Cornford were in for a shock when they returned from a short-trip to Scotland as Mr and Mrs! The couple have been together for 15 years and Julie said she would have broken down at the altar if she had organised a white wedding. And as she hates being the centre of attention a quick trip to Scotland's love capital Gretna Green fitted the bill.
Julie, 44, and Jim, 36, a self-employed builder, live at Fernhill Drive, Stacksteads. Julie said: "You couldn't say it was a whirl-wind romance and you can't say it was a moment of madness. I suppose the best reason why I did it is because of old fashioned sentimentality -- I got fed up of being Ms and explaining both surnames. It is nice to be Mr and Mrs."
