THE church wasn't big enough to hold the congregation at Roger Hargreaves' funeral on Monday.

Three hundred people, including around 50 Clayton-Le-Moors Harriers, were there to pay their respects to the popular 54-year-old Nelson athlete who was killed in a motor cycle accident at Sedbergh.

The service, which was also a celebration of his life, was at St John Southworth RC Church in Nelson.

Clayton Harriers are to pay their own tribute with a special road-race which will carry his name.

The Roger Hargreaves Memorial 5M will be held on Thursday, June 28, at Foulridge with his son James taking part.

Race organiser is Paralympic athlete Mark Brown, who himself suffered an arm amputation after a motorbike accident.

Indeed, it was Roger who persuaded Mark to start competing in disabled games after the Barcelona Olympics back in1992.

Roger's widow Sandra will present the prizes, and proceeds of the race will be distributed to his favourite charities.
