SUPPORTERS of Blackburn Rovers and Burnley will battle it out for a new trophy at Great Harwood golf club this weekend.

The final round of the Friends of Heart of Lancashire Charity Shield final will be played on Saturday.

Each match is a foursomes game played between two Rovers fans and two Burnley fans. The winning team pick up one point for their side.

Rovers are currently leading Burnley by seven points the five.

Members, associate members and juniors have entered the fourball stableford matchplay.

The idea is the brainchild of the club captain Craig Halliwell, a staunch Burnley fan. He said: "The golf club has many Clarets and Rovers supporters because we sit in the middle of the two clubs.

"I thought it a good idea if the friendly rivalry could be put to a good cause."

All proceeds from the event will be donated to a Great Harwood charity which supplies heart resucitation machines to the community.

Among those invited from outside the club are ex-players David Hamilton, Chris Peirce, Mike Higgins and Glen Keeley.
