CLUB records tumbled on Saturday as Rainford's 'wizard of the willow' Andrew Robinson was on fire in their fixture at Winstanley Park.
The young Aussie, celebrating his 20th birthday, smashed an unbeaten 204 as his side declared after only 44 overs on a massive 280-2. Along the way he hammered a record 16 sixes as he single-handedly dismantled a shell-chocked Park attack who at the end had nine fielders on the boundary edge. Ste Harrison also chipped in with an unbeaten 43.
The Park innings started brightly but then faltered to 100-4 as Phil Curran got to work. Only a fine half-century from Hetherington stopped the rot as the innings ended on 280/6 with Curran bagging 5-50 and Rainford the lion's share of the points.
The seconds faced the same opposition and scored an impressive 195-5 with the 'golden oldie' trio of Pendleton (41), Murgatroyd (39) and Whitehead (25) all making useful contributions.
At the other end of the spectrum, 14-year-old off-spinner Andrew Grounds made his league debut and his return of 4-48 offered the home side a chance of victory as Park could only muster 145-5 at the close.
Match sponsor was F. N. Turley.
On the junior front. the under 15s moved into the next phase of the Lancashire Sun Life Trophy after winning the Merseyside qualifying group on Friday. Their four-wicket success over a much-fancied Sefton outfit came after a 10-wicket semi-final rout of Hightown earlier in the week.
