BRAVE youngster Robert Hughes has raised £400 for two worthy causes after completing a sponsored 20-mile bike ride -- despite barely being able to walk.

The plucky 10-year-old from Blackbrook has spent six months in a wheelchair following surgery to correct a limb deficiency.

But that that did not prevent him completing his ride along the North Wales coast, accompanied by his proud dad and grandad.

And the money raised by his effort will now be donated to two causes close to Robert's heart -- Alder Hey Children's Hospital and schoolmate, Connor Marsden, who suffers from a rare skin condition.

Ashurst County Primary School pupil Robert, who pedalled from Kinmel Bay to Rhos-on-Sea, told the Star: "The last few miles were very difficult but with a lot of encouragement from my dad and grandad, I did it!"

Now he would like to thank his family and friends, and everyone who sponsored him.

Special thanks go to Mr and Mrs Bell from St Helens, who were on the ride on Saturday and made a point of waiting to give him a donation; to Mr and Mrs Tennant for their donation through the post; and to the kind lady who gave him a donation as she drove past him while he was out playing.
