ON Sunday, June 10 I was on my way to fish on Stocks Reservoir at Slaidburn.
Driving through Waddington and Newton I thought about the foot and mouth outbreak and the measures being taken to combat the said outbreak.
I would have expected at the very least, for there to be a disinfectant mat across the road at the top of Waddington Fell just before the cattle grid, because after that position in the countryside the sheep have access across the road, also vehicles using that route could be carrying the disease on their tyres, but nothing at all is done to prevent this happening.
I wonder if anyone, farmer or Defra official, could answer this question because I am left totally baffled by the lack of preventative measures on this route into the Trough.
