THE popular Lake District-based Bury Jubilee Outdoor Pursuits Centre has re-opened with the lifting of foot and mouth restrictions.

Previously the centre in Glenridding had been closed for nearly four months because of the outbreak.

Last weekend, a small party from Bury was able to use the centre and to go fell walking and climbing.

Because of the prolonged closure, the charity which runs the centre has had no income for four months and has lost more than £200.

However, it has been able to survive the shutdown by dipping into its reserves.

Groups who were earlier unable to go to the Lakes are now being re-booked by the secretary, Mr David Dickson.

He said: "We hope that all our local users will continue to support the hostel."
