ITEMS donated by a host of star personalities ensured a hugely successsful auction which was inspired by the plight of a local youngster.

Almost £10,000 was made from an evening charity event for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and five-year-old Becky Morris, of Hollow Meadow, whose brave battle against leukaemia prompted the fundraiser, managed to attend with her delighted parents.

Mr Peter Hilton, one of the Sedgley Park Road Runners who organised the event, said: "It was a terrific night with around 100 people attending. We were amazed at how deep they dipped into their pockets."

Among the items donated by top stars from music, sport and television were instruments signed by Elton John, Jimmy Page, Status Quo, Mick Hucknall, Brian May and Hank Marvin.

Also coming under the hammer were guitars autographed by Robbie Williams and Mark Knopfler. They were the top draws with each raising £2,000.

"A signed programme by David Beckham failed to reach its reserve price but I think that was because the place was full of Bolton fans!" said Mr Hilton.

The charity evening at The Last Drop Village also included a three-course meal and musical entertainment.

All the money raised will go to the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust which works to help Beth and hundreds like her.
