DERIAN House Children's Hospice is all set to hold its annual summer Gala Weekend -- and with more attractions than ever before it is shaping up to be spectacular.

Staff are hoping there will be no shortage of people willing to try their hand at a range of competitions, raffles and tombolas at the gala on Saturday and Sunday June 23 and Sunday 24.

It will take place in the field next to the hospice on Chancery Road, Astley Village, Chorley, and promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with attractions including donkey rides, brass and silver bands, a craft fair, quad bike rides, a giant inflatable slide and a children's entertainer.

Those hankering after a touch of nostalgia can indulge in a ride on the funfair, marvel at the jingling bells and the soothing knock of willow on oak courtesy of the Morris Dancers, or simply take a stroll around the craft fair.

There will also be a display of the Turbary House Birds of Prey, a team of Bernese Mountain Dogs, the Why Not Theatre Group and a karate display.

And with a popular balloon race also scheduled, the sky is the limit!

Lisa Cooke, fundraising co-ordinator for Derian House, said: " We are concentrating a lot on music this year and the bands will be one of the gala's focal points. We are also making sure there are attractions for all ages so everyone will find something they enjoy.

"Last year we raised around £10,000, and it would be great if we could do the same again.

"Throughout this year Derian House will need to raise funds in excess of £1 million, to keep its doors open to terminally ill children throughout the North West, and it is events such as the gala weekend which play a big part in helping the hospice meet its financial target."

The gala starts at 10am and admission 50p, or with programme, costing £1. Children under 12 years accompanied by an adult go in free.
