NEW plans for the future of the Ryelands Estate will be discussed by councillors next week.

The proposals could see 30 properties at the centre of the troubled estate bulldozed, with money earmarked for redeveloping them used instead for other development on the estate.

A controversial plan for more wide ranging changes was rejected by councillors last year, and an in depth consultation has been carried out since December.

The new proposal sets out a way forward under four key areas: housing improvements, environmental aspects of the area, community facilities and community safety.

They were decided after 200 face to face interviews with residents, carried out by consultants PEP.

Proposals include turning a disused house in to a community information centre and giving priority to external over internal repairs. Local MP Geraldine Smith met with Ryelands residents immediately after her re-election on Friday.

She said: "The time has come for action. People are pleased to have been asked for their opinion."
