A LANCASTER woman has appealed for help to catch a hit and run driver who left her and her daughter stranded on the outskirts of Torrisholme.

Shelley, who asked that we withhold her surname, was driving, with her daughter Sanna, two, along the road at Torrisholme when she was hit by a driver coming in the opposite direction.

The man and a woman passenger got out of the car and shouted that the road was one way.

On being told that the road was not, the man jumped back into his car, described as a blue MG metro or similar, and drove off, leaving Shelley and her daughter alone, with their car, a write off, in the middle of the road.

She said: "There are two roads up there, one of which is on the one way system, one of which isn't.

"We were on the other one, which is a very twisty road near the crematorium and we approached a bend.

"I had slowed down and was pipping my horn, but the other car came around at what must have been 50 miles per hour and smashed straight into me.

"I was terrified, very frightened. As soon as he realised the accident was his fault, the man just jumped in his car and reversed back towards the crossroads. I don't know where he went after that. He just left me there.

"I was really upset, I felt sick and I was still shaking several hours later. I'm surprised that somebody wasn't killed. If I had been going any faster, I'm sure I would have been."

The incident happened at about 12.30pm on Monday. The man is described as white, with brown/greying, crew cut hair, of medium to stocky build, approximately 5ft 10 to 6ft tall.

The woman has long, brown curly hair and is of slim to medium build. Both are around 40-years-old and were said to be well dressed and tidy.
