IF you are type of golfer who enjoys playing but hasn't the time to a join club, help could be at hand.

A golf society has been formed for non-handicap golfers.

The Startgolf! Club aims to help inexperienced players learn continue to learn the game in an unintimidating way.

It also organises mini-golf events for members on nine hole or par 3 courses around the region. Each event also features a free golf clinic covering everything from the golf swing to club selection during the round.

Ex-Ryder Cup referee Andrew Thorp who devised the idea said: "The club is effectively a golf society for learners.

"The problem for many aspiring golfers is that once they've had a few lessons they fail to continue with their golf because there's no structure for them. They can join a proper golf club but the time, cost and commitment means for many it's simpy not an option.

"But through our events they can make the transition from the driving range to the golf course less traumatic and a great deal more sociable."

Membership costs £60 per year or £40 for juniors.
