HEYSHAM port looks set to have a bright future after its new owners pledged to invest in the facility.
A recent take over by the Mersey Docks and Harbours company had lead to some local fears that the port would be run down in favour of Liverpool.
However, local MP Geraldine Smith has been assured that the port will receive new investment.
Miss Smith said: "I met with the new owners on Friday morning, and they have assured me that the port will not be run down.
"They have promised to spend a million pounds on improvements to the port. Obviously that is good news for the area."
