WHEN Liz Hardy took up a new hobby, she did it in a big way.

She picked up a pen and found fun finding friends in faraway places.

Now Liz, who lives in Cambridgeshire, is urging the people of the Leigh area to do the same by joining the International Penfriends' Club.

Liz said: "The art of letter writing is often thought to be dead, but in spite of all the excellent communication systems in use today, the good old letter is still very much alive and kicking.

"I have found penfriendship to be an exciting and inexpensive hobby, catering for all ages and cultures. I've exchanged recipes, news and views, souvenirs, tears and laughter.

"Over the years, my knowledge of the world and her people has grown and my life is richer thanks to penfriends near and far."

Liz writes to pals in the UK, France, Italy, Norway, Austria, Latvia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the USA.

Anyone wishing to have details of the International Penfriends Club can write, enclosing an SAE, to Mrs E Hardy, PO Box 71, St Ives, Cambs, PE27 5GL.
