POLICE have launched a new community drop-in centre to improve services for Astley residents.
The first all-purpose "surgery" of its kind in the area opened at the former hospital site recently.
The new centre in Dam House will be staffed by local officer, PC Martin Bate.
A police spokesman said: "The centre aims to offer locals further improvements in community services, including a room dedicated to local policing.
"The new surgery illustrates the way local officers are adapting to the changing needs of the community.
"The public will be able to visit the centre to discuss crime-prevention advice or policing issues, and will also be able to report crimes."
It will be open on a trial basis for six-12 months from 1pm-3pm every Wednesday. The old hospital site has been redeveloped for the community through lottery funding and is run by a team of dedicated trustees. It also houses rooms devoted to health, childcare, clinics and other community and voluntary groups. COMMUNITY SPIRIT: Volunteers join police outside the new drop-in centre at Dam House
