YOUNG brainboxes were sponsored for a maths challenge to raise money for Derian House, Chorley.

And latest calculations suggest that the 70 pupils of Pauline Vaughan's after-school maths club have raised over £150 - although more money is still coming in. The children were aged between five and 15 and picked the type of sums they wanted to do.

They then had to answer as many as they could in 20 minutes.

At the end of this time each child's name was put into a hat and a winner was drawn out. Calum Hall, 6, of Farmhouse Close, Blackburn, was victorious and won a cuddly prize called 'Dozy Dog'.

Calum sat his challenge at Centre Peace, Feilden Street, Blackburn.
