WELSH international prop Dave Whittle has been cleared to play in Leigh Centurions' NFP Top Four showdown at Rochdale on Sunday.

Whittle was found guilty of use of the elbow in the Trans-Pennine Final at Keighley two weeks ago but while disciplinary chiefs in Leeds upheld the red card, they ruled that no further action should be taken against the player.

Whittle had never previously been sent off as a professional player.

Yet Whittle has still had his knuckles rapped by the judiciary.

They found the prop guilty of making an obscene gesture towards Keighley fans seconds after being sent off at Cougar Park.

Rugby League spokesman John Huxley said: "A letter of reprimand has been sent to the player and he has been warned about his future conduct."
