Oldest Burnley fan in town celebrates 103rd birthday

A BURNLEY fan who watched his first game in 1919 returned to Turf Moor on Saturday to celebrate his 103rd birthday.

Hartley Eastwood was offered a seat in the ‘Legends’ section of the James Hargreaves Suite half a century after he last visited the ground.

He was presented with a shirt featuring the number 103 printed on the back.

Mr Eastwood, of Dove Court Nursing Home, Shuttleworth Street, was at the club's homecoming parade when they won the FA Cup at the old Crystal Palace in 1914.

Edna Peat, senior carer at Dove Court, said: “Hartley had a great time.

"He knows everything about the club, he’s been a fan for years.”

Born in 1907 in North Street, Mr Eastwood worked at John Gray's weaving mill, Elm Street, before becoming a tackler at various Nelson mills.

Respect to Mr Eastwood at 103! - Isn't it a bit cruel subjecting the old man to that at his tender years.
.
Brian Laws is believed to be playing him as Centre Half against Wigan. Laws commented "What with the mess we are in at the moment - there is no substitute for experience, so Hartley starts at Wigan".
.
Mr. Eastwood replied "It's great to be in the side. I can't do any worse than that bunch of cloggers that played in defence on Saturday"
.
Seriously, good on you Mr. Eastwood.

Will that be the same Sense of Humour you afforded me, when I visited the BRFC site? I have to say though, I think the comment by wackyracer is a good one. Obviously someone with a typical Northern sense of humour. Something totally unexpected from that neck of the woods, when considering the primal condition for a sense of humour is an active brain with intelligence.

And for most of the last 33 years its been bloody painful!

If we keep Grezza Alexander on ( of which theres a fair chance given the total c***p hes competing against) he will surely challenge our oldest players record?

Are you sure he didnt get a game at Spurs and Villa away. We were that ponderous at the back youd think the likes of Carlisle and Alexander were clocking up this type of age.
