A PLEA for help has been made by sea cadets to plug leaks in their training ship.
Cadets in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale are facing a £2,000 roof repair bill for their HQ, Training Ship Lookout.
And they are asking if any tradesman or benefactor in the Pennine towns can throw them a lifeline.
The cadets have called TS Lookout, a converted mill in Stanley Street, Burnley, their home for the past 60 years or so.
But the ‘vessel’ is showing signs of wear and tear and has at least three spots where rainwater is trickling in.
County councillor Bill Bennett, who represents the Burnley Central East division, has already stepped in to assist.
He has secured £500 from the Lancashire Local Burnley committee from his annual community fund, and the cadets have also received a £250 pledge from Burnley Freemasons.
Lieutenant Liz Jubb, the cadets’s commanding officer, said: “We have got a leaky roof, in at least three places. The weather has been horrendous.
“The cost will be around £2,000 and we are seeking funding and holding a series of fund-raisers.”
Cadets have arranged a Burns Night evening in January and have lined up a bag-packing session at Sainsbury’s, Burnley.
The cadets, who are now 45-strong and have members from as far afield as Barnoldswick and Bacup, as well as, Burnley, Nelson and Colne, use TS Lookout for a variety of activities.
Contact Liz, to make a pledge for the repairs, on 07921 952950.
