CHILDREN’s favourite Peppa Pig brought the crowds into Burnley as the Christmas lights were turned on.
The Nickelodeon favourite flicked the switch at the town centre ceremony today.
She was joined on stage by Gladiator Amazon, a local lass, born in Nelson, and now a regular on the Sky One version of the TV classic.
A packed entertainment programme also saw performances from Benedictine Karaoke Winner, Shell's Belles, Guys as Dolls Show Team, Sally Jaxx and It's My Party.
The fun was rounded off with a visit from Father Christmas and a fireworks display.
It is the first year the switch-on has taken place on a Sunday, instead of the usual Thursday night, and revellers thought the change had been a success.
Julie Slater, 37, from Padiham, took along her two children.
She said: “It was a fantastic event. It’s great to be able to bring the children and keep them entertained for so long.
"I could not believe how many children were here.”
David Barnes, 41, from Brownside Road, Burnley, said: “There seems to be a lot more people here this year so I guess that is because they have moved it to a Sunday.
“It’s really busy and everyone seems to be ejoying themselves.”
Paula Todd, 31, from Queens Park Road, Burnley, said: “My two children were desperate to come and see Peppa Pig so I had to bring them.”
The countdown to Christmas continues with many town centre shops open for late-night shopping until 8pm on Thursdays.
