A ‘SEASONED’ collector has been rewarded for having one of the quirkiest hobbies in the UK.
Christine Edwards, of Cliviger, has received national recognition for her 2,145 novelty salt and pepper sets which fill her cottage.
Christine, who used to teach at Casterton School, Burnley, has now been feature in a documentary about Britain’s most unique collectors.
She said: “My son saw a competition for collectors advertised online and he could not think of a quirkier collector than his mum.
“I am pleased to have won the competition because I really love collecting the sets. I used to have a flea market where I used to sell things like salt and pepper sets.
“It was not until I started buying sets for myself that I was hooked.”
A spokesperson from Norwich Union, who organised the nationwide competition, said: “Christine has a collection that ranges from Betty Boop to ocean liners and toilets. She also has themed sets from fairy tales to farms and Noah’s Ark”.
Christine’s friends and family have also been bitten by the condiment collecting bug as they keep an eye out for special salt and pepper sets when they visit new places.
Christine added: “Collecting gives me a purpose when I go away, because I know there will be something I have not seen.
"At antique fairs I rapidly scan the tables for anything with two holes in!”
