A YOB who punched a train driver after terrorising passengers has been jailed for a total of two years.

Asim Hussain, 25, harassed a teenager on the train and then told a male passenger who came to help: “Do you want your throat slitting?”

After being thrown off the train, he attacked driver Billy Leyland and ended up on the tracks throwing stones at its front window, Burnley Crown Court heard.

Hussain was arrested and bailed after the melee, got involved in an attack on a man outside a pub and then raided his sister's house.

The defendant, of Redearth Street, Darwen, admitted affray and burglary.

Together with Zeshan Ali, 22, of Carr Road, and Kasim Anwar, 22, of Rupert Street, both Nelson, he pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Ali and Anwar were each given 39 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, with 200 hours unpaid work. They must pay £750 compensation.

David Macro, prosecuting, said Hussain was on the Preston to Colne train last October 26 and started to harass Jessica Lees, 18.

The female conductor moved Miss Lees away, but Hussain moved closer. The conductor then put herself between the two to protect the teenager. Passengers were by now very alarmed.

Mr Macro said the train had now stopped at Brierfield and Mr Leyland, aware of the trouble, wanted to assist. Mr Leyland told him to calm down but Hussain hit him in the face. The driver managed to push him off the train.

Mr Leyland and a passenger then pinned Hussain to the ground, eventually released him when he promised to behave and the driver went back to his cab.

Hussain then got on the tracks, picked up stones and threw them at the cab.

Mr Macro said the defendant was bailed and on March 14 attacked Afzal Khan, who had gone to the Clayton Arms, Nelson, for a drink, along with Ali and Anwar.
