RESIDENTS in Burnley could be hit with £100 fines for not filling their bins properly, it has emerged.

Earlier this week, the Government admitted councils could charge up to £110 for overfilling of bins, a move criticised by Conservatives.

A Burnley Council spokesman said persistent “side waste offenders” — who leave rubbish next to bins — would be fined £100 if warning letters failed.

Pilot projects are set to take place in the Bank Hall and Burnley Wood and it could be rolled out elsewhere in Burnley.

IS THIS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF WHERE COUNCILS SAY THEY ARE GOING TO FINE PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG, LIKE WHEN PEOPLE DROP LITTER AND CIGARETTE ENDS IN THE STREET? BUT SOMEHOW LOOKING AT THE PAVEMENT OUTSIDE SOME PUBS, NOBODY EVERY GETS FINED. COULD SOMEBODY TELL ME HOW MANY PEOPLE BURNLEY COUNCIL HAVE TAKEN TO COURT FOR DROPPING LITTER IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS?

There's never any mention of a money back scheme for people who reduce the amount of rubbish that the council take away from their homes. the coucil tax just keeps going up.
