Mosque and madressa students took part in a 5-a-side football tournament in Blackburn.

The 4th annual tournament was organised by Hafiz Asif Iqbal and Hanif Premi and attracted more than 100 students from different Islamic centres in the town.

The tournament, played at the Soccer Dome in Blackburn, ended in a thrilling final which saw Faizan e Raza come back from 2-0 to win 4-2 against Ghosia Mosque of Chester Street. Faizan e Raza went into half-time trailing to two early goals but then staged a monumental comeback in the space of five minutes.

Both sides had cruised through the group stages scoring more than 10 goals each. In the semi-finals it was a different story and the finalists had to win penalty shoot-outs to progress.

Trophies and medals were handed out to the teams by representatives from the mosques.

Organisers said: “We would like to thank all the mosques and madressas for their support and to the children for participating in some great games throughout the day.”
