An Accrington man says he wants to avoid delivery company Evri “like the plague” after a deliveryman left his parcel outside without knocking the door late at night.

Evri has since apologised for the error and offered him £25 in compensation.

Francis Agnew shared CCTV footage of his parcel being dumped in the corner of his front garden, at 10pm on Tuesday (January 10) with no attempt made to knock the door.

In the footage the delivery worker stands at the door before putting the package in a corner, taking a photo of it as proof of delivery, and leaving.

Mr Agnew said: “I was randomly checking my phone before bed.

"When someone enters my garden an alert is sent to my email to say someone has triggered my cameras.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“I spotted someone dropping my parcel off without even knocking the door or ringing the doorbell.

“It’s not the first time I have had issues with them, In the past I’ve had problems with late deliveries.”

Had he not checked the cameras Francis says the item, a £50 dress for his wife, could have been stolen in the middle of the night.

“If I didn’t look at my phone and see that alert there is a good chance it would have been gone in the morning.

“It’s not so much about the value of the item, it’s the customer service.

“I understand they are overworked at this time of year but they’re not doing the service they’re meant to be providing.

“They didn’t even knock on the door! I was in the living room at the time and would have answered it.”

While the the company has apologised and offered Francis £25 in compensation, he still says he will “avoid them like the plague”.

He said: “I try to avoid them like the plague now and would always prefer to use another courier.

“Every time I see my parcel is being delivered by a courier I cross my fingers it’s not them.”

A spokesperson for Evri said they have spoken to the courier in question about delivery standards to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

They said: “We have contacted the recipient of the parcel to apologise for the delivery and offered a goodwill payment. 

“We have clear standards about how and where parcels should be left if recipients aren’t available and we have a number of checks in place to ensure correct delivery such as safe place photos and geolocation.

"Our local team have spoken to the courier involved about our required delivery standards to ensure this doesn’t happen again in the future.”
