A NEW council employment initiative in Burnley has seen 10 people secure jobs in its first weeks of operation.

Local Jobs for Local People has focused on providing opportunities for people living in the south west of the town.

Working with Job Centre Plus, Remploy and Vedas, along with major local employers, employment development workers have staged promotional events across the district.

Firms which have taken part include BCW Engineering, Veka, The Express Holiday Inn, Futaba Tenneco, Cakeboards and The Original Factory.

I wonder how many of these lucky people were amongst the 2000+ disabled people who were bullied and misled into redundancy by the Remploy Board and this uncaring government.

Labour is no longer the voice of the people - but we will have our say at the ballot box.
