East Lancashire apprentices arrow in on team building

ARCHERY and orienteering were among activities on an extended workshop for young apprentices.

A group of young people spent a week in the countryside near Burnley as part of the Elevate Youthbuild programme, which helps develop social and professional abilities they can practice in the workplace.

Elevate is one of the government's housing market renewal partnerships.

Youthbuild is run by Accent Community Partnerships and works with Elevate's Constructing The Future programme, aimed at encouraging and helping young people from across East Lancashire get into the construction industry.

Ibrahim Khan, from Blackburn said: "It has been really good to get out and meet new people.

"I have learned a lot of new skills and had really good fun at the same time."

Andrew Platten, head of Constructing the Future added: "Our project was created with the aim of creating the opportunities for people to work within construction, via a variety of training routes.

"Elevate Youthbuild is a very important scheme for us, because it is helping under-represented communities find jobs in construction."
